Bison hoops continues dominance with big win over Fillmore Central

The Central City High School boys basketball team has bolstered their impressive season record to 11-2 following commanding wins over Fillmore Central and Arcadia/Loup City. Last Thursday, the Bison secured a dominant 66-50 victory over the previously unbeaten Fillmore Central. Their success continued with a 48-31 win over Arcadia/Loup City. The team is preparing for upcoming games against Ravenna and Centennial.

The end of 2023 brought with it holiday tournament action across the land with plenty of area success. Left to right from top left: For the Bison wrestling team it was a great showing in Ord for the annual dual tournament. The Bison finished perfect on the day as they secured a thrilling victory over Grand Island Northwest to bring home the dual tournament championship. At the Runza Holiday Classic the Lady Bison of Central City made a deep run as they finished runner-up following a loss to Cross County in the championship. It was the opposite for the Lady Storm as they battled into the championship and won the East Butler Holiday Tournament. The High Plains boys also battled their way into the finals of the tournament, but fell to a tough Walthill squad to finish runner-up. The Bison boys basketball team also found themselves in a tough battle, against undefeated Cozad. Truman Ryan led the squad with 15 points, but they would finish runner-up after a 61-52 defeat.

The High Plains team saw a mixture of victories and hard-fought matches, with several wrestlers making significant impacts: •Hudson Urkoski (120): Hudson had an impressive run, placing 2nd with a series of victories, including a win over Dominick Sterling from Nebraska City and Liam Moline from Mount Michael Benedictine, before facing a tough decision loss to Owen Vondra from Elkhorn Valley.
