This past week we were able to attend some preseason competitions to get a look at some Bison and Eagle teams. This coming week will give us the opportunity to further see these teams along with Storm teams. Monday night inside the Bison Activity Dome it was the Bison and the Eagles squaring off in the annual Hall of Fame Game. Left to right from top left: Emma Steinke (3) boxes out Gracie Hackel. Reagan Fousek glides through the air in the matchup that was ultimately won by the Eagles. On the boys side it was an exciting contest featuring Ayden Zikmund (3) and Micah Perdew (23) as the Bison took the victory. In wrestleoff action Tristan Burbach preps for another big year while guys like Harley Senkbile also secured a varsity roster spot.

The Central City Bison are set to embark on the 2023/24 boys’ basketball season, following an impressive 24-4 record last year and a state tournament appearance. This season, the Bison, coached by BJ Blase in his 7th year, face the challenge of filling large shoes left by departing players, while building on the success of one of the best seasons in school history.

The Central City Lady Bison basketball team, under the seasoned guidance of 18-year head coach Dan Negus, gears up for a promising 2023/24 season with a blend of experienced seniors and eager underclassmen ready to make their mark on the court.

Have you ever wanted to try something new? Hello, I am Kaydence Dettman, a female wrestler. I started wrestling in my 6th grade year with one of my friends. Soon after we started, I fell in love, but it wasn’t always love. Trust me, I went through a good amount of nerves and fear. Not only were we jumping into a primarily boys’ sport at the time, but we also didn’t know what we were doing. We were the only girls at the time in our school. Nobody took us seriously, and we faced a lot of mean comments. Not only from the guys on our team but also from our friends, peers, and even adults.

In heartfelt ceremonies brimming with excitement and school spirit, Central City High School’s own Jerzie Schindler and Nebraska Christian’s Ali Bruning took a leap towards their collegiate dreams, signing with the University of Nebraska-Kearney. With the rallying cry of “Lopes Up,” these two athletes are set to carry the torch of Central City’s storied athletic legacy into the Lopers’ arena.

A night of nostalgia and celebration unfolded at Buena Vista University (BVU) on Friday, October 13, as the university hosted its prestigious Athletics Hall of Fame banquet. Among the luminaries inducted was none other than Clarks’ very own basketball maestro, Jason Evers, a 1996 alumnus of BVU.
