In a thrilling day of wrestling at the NSAA State Dual Championships in Kearney, the Central City High School wrestling team, known as the Bison, showcased resilience and skill to clinch a fifth-place finish in Class C. Despite an initial setback, the team rebounded with determination, defeating higher-seeded opponents to secure their position as one of the top teams in the state.

The Central City Bison boys’ basketball team navigated through a series of highs and lows in the recent Lou-Platte Conference basketball tournament, culminating in a robust finish and a return to their winning ways in regular season play.

In the world of high school wrestling, the NSAA girl’s subdistrict meets are a crucial step for athletes aiming to extend their season into the district competitions and beyond. Last Friday, the Central City Bison and High Plains Community girls wrestling teams took to the mats, facing stiff competition and showcasing the burgeoning talent within their ranks.

The annual Crossroads Conference wrestling meet brought with it plenty of excitement as High Plains Community secured a third place team finsih. One of the biggest moments of the day came from Gage Friesen who notched his 100th career victory. Friesen finished runnerup along with Caleb Sharman. Leading the way for the Storm were Hudson Urkoski and Wyatt Urkoski who both earned conference championships. Neddy Lesiak earned a fourth place finish while Aaron Brown earned a fifth place finish. Following an impressive victory at the Ainsworth Invite, the Central City Bison wrestling team is turning its focus to the 2024 NSAA State Dual Championships. The Bison, seeded sixth, have their sights set on a strong showing this Saturday in Kearney to cap off an outstanding dual season.

The Central City Bison basketball teams had a night of contrasting destinies this past Tuesday in the Lou-Platte Conference basketball tournament. While the boys’ team continued their winning ways against St. Paul with a 44-32 victory, the Lady Bison faced a setback, falling 41-32 in a closely contested game, marking their first loss of January.
