Brick by brick has been he motto of the Central City High School volleyball team and this week the team took a big step in the right direction as they continue to build for the future of Bison volleyball. It was a busy week with half a dozen matches played, but one that also brought with it the team’s first two victories of the season.

On Tuesday night Central City battled both Doniphan-Trumbull and Gibbon with mixed results. Doniphan-Trumbull got the best of the Bison (25-18, 25-12) but the team quickly rebounded as they prepared to face Gibbon. With an exciting 25-22 victory in the opening set and a 25-14 victory in the second set, Central City defeated Gibbon to secure their second win of the season.

On Saturday the team was in action at the Boone Central Invitational where they first ran into trouble in a match with Lakeview. From there they would go on to play Tekamah-Herman in what was a battle. The Bison got off to a great start as they claimed the first set 25-23, but were defeated in the second set 26-24. In the final set it was also a battle, but one the Bison won as they earned a 25-23 victory in the third set to claim the match.

Makayla Enevoldsen led the way with nine kills and also added three blocks while Marissa Crumrine was close behind with seven kills and a pair of blocks to her credit. Xia Bandt added four kills while Brookly Richardson did a bit of everything recording two kills, six ace serves, six digs and 16 assists. Faith Campa added a kill and also two ace serves and nine digs for the Bison while Teagan Sadler recorded two ace serves and six digs. Elaina McHargue delivered three big blocks while Addie Buhlke came away with seven digs in the victory. Central City finished off the tournament with a loss to Ord.

The Bison will be looking for another big week as they shift their focus to one that will be a big week. Another victory could be waiting for them on Thursday as they travel to face Schuyler who is currently 3-5 on the season. Saturday will be a big one here in Central City for the annual Central City Invitational.

This year things will look a bit different from years past with two pools being played at two different sites. Central City will play in the first pool held at Central City Middle School and they will face Centennial at 9:00 am, Adams Central at 11:30 am and Boone Central at 2:00 pm. The second pool consisting of Nebraska Christian, Lexington, Wood River and Hastings will play at Nebraska Christian. The firstplace match is scheduled to be played at Central City Middle School and the third-place match at Nebraska Christian both at 4:00 pm. Those games could be switched depending of who is playing in those contests.

The Bison will also be at home next Tuesday when they face Ord at 5:00 pm and Sandy Creek at 7:00 pm.
