Coming off of a hard-fought battle with Heartland the Nebraska Christian Eagles looked to use that momentum to their favor as they hit the road to face Wisner-Pilger last Friday night. Both teams came ready to play and once again the Eagles found themselves locked in a battle.

A defensive battle in the first half kept the game close but a fourth quarter shootout ended up going the way of the Gators as Nebraska Christian suffered their first loss of the season and now falls to 2-1.

“Our game last Friday was a tough loss but a good learning experience for our players and coaches,” says Eagles head coach Andy Falk. “I believe that these lessons will help us become a better team this week and for the rest of the season. Most of our mistakes are very correctable and I know our players will strive to improve from them. I appreciate our players’ efforts and positive attitudes.”

The game headed into the second half with Nebraska Christian trailing 8-7. Points were hard to come by in the first half, but that all changed as Wisner-Pilger took a 20-14 lead into the fourth quarter. Each team scored twenty points in the final quarter, but Nebraska Christian was not able to hold on to a late lead as they did last week and were defeated 40-34.

Oliver Herman completed four passes for 43 yards and also rushed for 44 yards on 12 carries, but it was Will Twogood who again led the way. Twogood rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns while fellow senior Drew Perdew added 101 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Owen Morris also carried the ball for twenty yards on three carries for the Eagles.

On the defensive side of the ball, it was senior Micah Davis who led the way racking up 11 total tackles while Twogood also impressed with eight tackles including one for a loss. Terry Sebek recorded seven tackles while Gabe Langemeier had six and Drew Perdew added five tackles including two for a loss. Langemeier also recovered a fumble.

The Eagles will now shift their focus to a tough battle at 2:00 pm on Friday in Spaulding with Riverside who has been scoring basketball numbers in recent weeks en route to a 3-1 record. Following a loss to Stanton, the Chargers then scored 81 points in a win over Sandy Creek and 55 points in a win over North Central.

“Riverside has put up a lot of points,” says Coach Falk. “They have some very quick players that we will need to keep in check. We are going to need to tackle better than we did last week so that will be a major emphasis this week in practice. As always, our major goal is to go out and glorify God with our thoughts, and actions. Every game gives our players a chance to do that again and I look forward to seeing them display their talents on the field this Friday.”
