The Central City High School softball team has been hot as of late and since suffering multiple losses in the always challenging Seward Tournament, the team is riding a four-game winning streak. It was a big week for the Lady Bison as they defeated Centura-Central Valley and St. Paul last Thursday before hitting the road to defeat Minden in a blowout.

Tuesday the Lady Bison wasted no time getting out to a big lead and after the top of the first inning the game was already out of hand as they led 15-0. From there they pushed across five more runs in the next two innings while keeping Minden in check as they rolled to a whopping 20-0 victory.

Jerzie Schindler and Payton Burbach handled the pitching duties as they combined to allow just two hits, no runs and strikeout eight batters. It was also a big night for Schindler at the plate as she delivered with two homeruns to go three for three on the day with six RBIs. Burbach also came up big driving in two runs. Ava Steinke had a big day including a triple as she drove in a pair of runs in a two for two performance while Makenna Schenk and Hallie Rutherford also matched her line driving in two runs on two hits in two trips to the plate. Karlee Seitz drove in a pair of runs on a hit while Caleigh Botsch was three for four and drove in a run. Celeste Moser also drove in a run on a hit while Emma Steinke recorded a hit for the Bison.

*Tuesday afternoon Central City hosted Centura-Central Valley in the first of two games on the day for the Lady Bison. Six runs in the bottom of the second inning proved to be enough in this one as Central City went on to pick up the 6-0 victory. Schindler pitched four innings and was on her mark as she gave up just two hits and struck out ten batters. Burbach finished the final two innings as she struck out one batter and did not allow a hit. Caleigh Botsch, Makenna Schenk, Jerzie Schindler, Hallie Rutherford and Karlee Seitz each drove in runs for the Bison.

In the late game Central City faced conference rival St. Paul and quickly fell behind 1-0. From there it was all Bison as they were able to score two runs in the bottom of the second, one run in the bottom of the third and three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift them to a 6-1 victory. Schindler was once again great on the mound as she gave up just four hits and no earned runs while recording a whopping 15 strikeouts as she faced 23 batters. Botsch was great at the plate driving in two runs while Ava Steinke, Celeste Moser and Seitz all drove in a run for the Lady Bison.

Central City will now shift their focus to some key matchups with quality teams. Thursday they will be back in front of the home crowd to face a 10-3 Blue River team who has scored plenty of runs to start the season. Monday the team will be back in action as they hit the road to face Twin River and on Tuesday they will host Fillmore Central/ Exeter-Millagan who is 8-5 on the season.
