Next Up: Fort Calhoun (2-1)

The Pioneers are a bit of a new face for the Bison to match up with as only the Kernels baseball team typically has them on their schedule. Fort Calhoun had a big season a year ago, but graduated a large senior class and looks to build off of that momentum.

Leading the charge is senior Austin Welchert who has played well at quarterback as he has completed 55% of his passes for 609 yards and seven touchdowns while throwing just one interception. He has also led the team in rushing as he has rushed for 156 yards on 52 carries and has two rushing touchdowns.

At receiver it is junior Grayson Bouwman leading the way as he has hauled in 16 receptions for 385 yards and five touchdowns. Freshman Blake Welchert has also been a threat catching 11 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns. One of the hardest hit positions for Fort Calhoun was the offensive line where only senior Joe Doyle returned as a starter.

On the defensive side of the ball look for many of the same names along with Avery Quinlan at linebacker and Sam Halford who have been tackle leaders for the Pioneers this season. Fort Calhoun looked solid in wins over Nebraska City and Wayne, but fell to Oakland-Craig in week two. This one could be an exciting match up but we are calling for the Herd to carry the Bison to a win.
