Wilma J. Higgins, 96 of Grand Island died Friday, February 23, 2024 at Tiffany Square Center.

Visitation was Wednesday, February 28th from noon-1:30 PM at All Faiths Funeral Home. Graveside services followed at 2 PM in the Grand Island Cemetery. Daniel Naranjo will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the family to be determined at a later date.

Wilma was born on November 12, 1927 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Fred and Dollie (Taylor) Dyke. She was raised in Grandview, Missouri graduating from high school in 1945. She was united in marriage to Richard Barnett Sr. on July 12, 1945. This union was blessed with four children. They lived in Grandview, MO and Columbia, MO before moving to Central City in 1958, where he had acquired the Central City Veterinary Clinic. Wilma enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. She worked at Grosshans, Inc. from 1978-86.

On May 10, 1986 she was united in marriage to Eldon Higgins in Lincoln. They made their home in Lincoln until Eldon retired, moving to Grand Island in 1993 to be closer to family.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Some of Wilma’s enjoyments included crossword puzzles, professional baseball, NBA, the PGA and especially Husker football. She also enjoyed reading and collecting recipes. Most of all, Wilma loved having family together for the holidays.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Richard Barnett Jr. of Lincoln, Gary (Kay) Barnett of Iowa Park, TX, Julie (Bill) Raile of Grand Island and Michael (Jen) Barnett of Lincoln; step children, Melody (Jim) Schuller of Central City, Brad Higgins of Grand Island; grandchildren, April Barnett, Cody (Brittany) Raile, Alyssa (Joe) Bartels, Meagan Barnett and Celeste Barnett; great grandchildren, Stella, Lincoln and Clara and step grandchildren, Heather Negus, Jaime Rathman and Christopher Schuller.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eldon Higgins (Sept. 9, 2010).
