Wayne George Hilder, 102, of Central City died Friday, October 13, 2023 at Westfield Nursing Home inAurora. Funeral services were Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City with Pastor Doug McHargue officiating. Visitation was Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial was at the Fullerton Cemetery on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. There was also a time of reflection for David Hilder and a burial of his ashes in the Fullerton Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Wayne and Mildred Hilder Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Merrick Foundation or the United Presbyterian Church. Condolences can be sent to the family at www. soltwagnerfuneral.com.

Wayne was born on October 11, 1921 to George G. and Winifred (Roberts) Hilder in Wymore. He grew up in the Wymore area attending District 128. He then graduated from Wymore High School in 1939. Wayne furthered his education when his parents moved to Central City and he attended Nebraska Central College, graduating in 1947.

Wayne entered the United States Army Medical Corps on July 13, 1939. Wayne was sent to various bases and hospitals including Fort Robinson, Hamilton General Hospital, and the 316th General Hospital during his enlistment. While fighting for our country during WWII, Wayne was stationed in Manila, Philippines. Wayne then returned to the United States and was discharged at Fort Carson, Colorado in February of 1946.

Wayne’s father started Hilder Implement Company in March of 1939. After completing high school, Wayne joined his father in the business which he continued throughout his working life.

He met and married Mildred Galloway and they were married on August 27, 1950. The couple loved to travel. They traveled throughout the United States, Europe, but especially enjoyed their trip to the Holy Land. Their greatest travels were to go visit their family. Along with travelling, Wayne enjoyed golf and gardening.

He was a member and former Elder at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City, Central City Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post #6, NFPEDA, and past president of the Lion’s Club.

Wayne is survived by his children- Becky Hilder of Mesa, AZ; Kevin Hilder of Central City; Kay Hilder of Tempe, AZ; and Todd Hilder of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter- Brizeyda Hilder of Tempe, AZ; daughter in law- Leigh Porter of Central City; He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and son- David Hilder.
