Susie K Peterson, 94 passed away peacefully July 19,2023 in Citrus Heights, Ca Susie was born in Omuta Japan March 20,1929 to Kumakichi & Makiyo Ogawa. She grew up in the Japanese southern island of Kyushu during the 1930s and 1940s until moving to Tokyo after World War II. In 1957, Susie married Lawrence F. Peterson, who was stationed in Japan while serving in the United States Air Force. Susie immigrated to the U.S. with her husband in 1967, where she lived for the rest of her life in northern California taking care of her family which soon included two sons.

In the Sacramento area, Susie spent many years learning and teaching Japanese arts and crafts including kabuki, shamisen (Japanese banjo), bonsai, ikebana (flower arranging), pottery, and folk dance. Throughout her life she performed at events that showcased Japanese and Asian culture throughout the state of California. She especially enjoyed performing at K-12 and college/university cultural art shows and festivals.

Those remembering Susie are her sons, Bill of Northampton, MA, and Larry of Carmichael, CA; three grandchildren, Duncan, Nicholas (Nick), and Michael; nieces Peggy Church and Jody (and Bill) Ziemba, and nephew Ty Peterson. And many great (grand) nieces/nephews in Central Nebraska and in Japan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, and nephew Shinichi. Her husband of 66 years, Lawrence, also recently passed away.
