Shirley A. Newby, 79, of Central City, died on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Litzenberg Memorial Long Term Care Center in Central City. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Central City with Pastor Tom Lucas officiating. Visitation was on Monday, from 10:00 a.m until service time at the church. Interment was held at the Central City Cemetery.

Shirley was born on August 5, 1944 to Robert and Helen (Chancellor) Rutherford in Central City. Shirley grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1962. On February 23, 1964 Shirley was united in marriage to Chadd Newby in Central City. To this union 4 children were born. Shirley and Chadd remained in the Central City area their entire married life. Over the years Shirley worked at the Central City Mall, a local printing company, Jack N Jill grocery store, and at Jeff’s Market in Polk. She then began working at Pinnacle Bancorp in Central City until her retirement in 2009. Shirley was very involved in the United Methodist Church, as well as being a 4-H leader, and Girl Scout leader. She volunteered for many years at the thrift store and was a past member of the Extension Club. In her free time, Shirley loved to work in her large flower garden, but her greatest love was getting to spend time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chadd of Central City, her children; Tonya (Dale) Bannister of Marquette, Theresa (Ted) Rockwell of Omaha, Trent (Poe) Newby of Omaha, and Tory (David) Enevoldsen of Central City, her siblings; Larry (Robin) Rutherford of San Diego, CA and Doris Fuehrer of Central City, 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Lowell Rutherford, Robert Rutherford, and Duane Rutherford, and one great-grandson; Briggs Barton.
