Erma R. Cornwell of York passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 in Aurora,, at the age of 85. She was born at Clarks to Walter and Marie (Dickman) Church on June 8, 1938.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2024 at Metz Chapel in York. Inurnment will follow services in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Erma has been cremated so there will be no viewing however her family will greet friends and family one hour prior to services at the mortuary in York. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Condolences may be left for the family at metzmortuary. com. Metz Mortuary in York is handling the arrangements.

Erma was a lover of nature. She always fed the birds, rabbits and squirrels, and sometimes the coons and possums. She always had a garden and flowers planted all over. Erma loved country music, and traveled around Nebraska to country music festivals with her sisters. She loved wild animal ornaments and had many. She also loved to go deer hunting with her youngest brother and sister.

Those left to cherish her memory are sisters Donna Reisener, and Alice (Denny) Faeh both of Central City, Sharon (Art) Lambert of Stromsburg, and Twyla Mingus (Dale Walford) of York, three stepsons Bill Cornwell of Grand Island, Kent Cornwell of Marquette, Tom (Liz) Cornwell of Aurora, and one stepdaughter Anne (Kenny) Colburn of Giltner, six step-grandchildren Brett Colburn, Kara Vincent, Levi and Brock Cornwell, Stacie Forbis and Casey Cornwell (fiancé Taylor), also many nieces and nephews who were all close to her, and two sisters-in-law Linda Church and Virginia Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie Cornwell, her parents, seven brothers Ron, Harold, Dean, Milford, Melvin, Forrest and Arnold, four sisters Betty Gulbrandson, Blanche Shively, Faye Greger and Berneice Plumtree.

She loved the Tabitha Hospice nurses. A big thank you goes out to them from Erma.
