The 2022 Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program was busy with lots of programs attended and many, many minutes read! The most attended program held was Magician Jeff Quinn with around 170 adults and children. This program was supported by the Merrick Foundation with a grant awarded to us given by Ed and Laurie Dexter.

We also had a program funded through Humanities Nebraska with Lisa Kramme presenting Tales from Hans Christian Andersen. Everyone enjoyed the Wildlife Encounters program and the kids and adults attending learned about six animal ambassadors.

We are also so grateful to our local presenters, Suzanne Philippi, Brandon Wright and Scott Musil for sharing their expertise with us each year! There were crafts at some of our programs and the favorite craft was making their own Kazoo after the Sound Waves program presented by the Edgerton Center. Lego Day is always a big hit and we had around 100 children who made Ocean themed structures by themselves or with friends.

Our movie day was supported by Preferred Popcorn by donating popcorn for the kids to enjoy with the movie. We received a Youth Grant for Excellence from the Nebraska Library Commission which paid for our other programs and a new AWE computer for the children’s area. Most of our programs were held at North Park and the kids were able to register for a drawing each week.

Thank you to Citizen’s Bank and Trust, Cornerstone Bank, Archer Credit Union, Pinnacle Bank, Central City Elementary PTO, Dairy Queen, Taco John’s, Runza, and Casey’s for their generous donations! Our summer reading programs are a success because of all the support from our community! The prizes for the minutes tracked through Reader Zone were passed out the first week of August. Looking forward to our 2023 Summer Reading Program-All Together Now!

This project is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Nebraska Library Commission.

We may now be nearing the fall season, but there was plenty of fun this summer at the Central City Public Library like when Sally Bankson (left) worked with Wildlife Encounters to get children a hands on educational experience that they will not forget anytime soon.
